Taste of Cayman Food and Drink Festival has announced that Cayman Islands Meals on Wheels has been selected as the official charity of the 30th anniversary festival, which is taking place Saturday, 27 January 2018 at the Festival Green, Camana Bay.

Every year, Taste of Cayman supports the local community through a charity raffle. Funds raised by the raffle are split between the Cayman Islands Tourism Association (CITA) and the charity of choice, this year being Meals on Wheels, with the funds going towards supporting each organisation’s various activities.

Cayman Islands Meals on Wheels provides free, hot and nutritious meals to senior citizens in need, the homebound and the disabled all over Cayman, allowing people to retain their self-worth and independence. With over 100 volunteers, who deliver the meals Monday through Friday, the Meals on Wheels visits also help reduce loneliness and bring the community together.

Ms. Tiffany Dixon-Ebanks, Executive Director of CITA is excited about the partnership between the Festival and Meals on Wheels, as they continue their mission to provide hot, nutritious meals, through coordination of its team of caring volunteers.

“With the upcoming Taste of Cayman representing 30 years of the festival, it is fitting that we support Meals on Wheels, a charity which is not only food focused, but does an amazing job of helping and bringing together Cayman’s community,” Ms. Dixon-Ebanks said.

Erin Bodden, General Manager of Meals on Wheels said that the organisation was excited to be able to partner with CITA for 2018’s Taste of Cayman Food and Drink Festival.

“At Meals on Wheels, we are committed to enhance the lives of those we visit, helping them maintain independence, as well as encourage hope and wellbeing through our volunteer programme. Being Taste of Cayman’s official charity for 2018, we hope to spread awareness of what we do, as well as using the money raised towards helping others in the future.” Ms. Bodden said.

Raffle tickets will be on sale for $5 at participating outlets, at Meals on Wheels’ office on the second floor at Trafalgar Place, as well as at the Festival on the night. The Grand Prize is a round-trip airfare with Cayman Airways, accommodation and a pair of tickets to the South Beach Wine and Food Festival in Miami, Florida.

Other prizes include restaurants vouchers, spa experiences, hotel stays, activities, tours and tickets to events and attractions.

Taste of Cayman Food & Drink Festival 2018:

Taste of Cayman began in the late 80’s, when a small number of restaurants from the Cayman Islands Restaurant Association met in a field to compete in a Chili Cook Off. Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2018, the event has now grown into what it is today, with thousands of festival goers and over 45 restaurants, bars and vendors participating in the island’s largest foodie gathering.
