Strong second half pushes Guadeloupe past Cayman

Kingston, Jamaica – A strong second half from Guadeloupe pushed them past the Cayman Islands 3-0 in the opening fixture of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under 17 Boys qualifiers on Saturday.

Playing at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, Cayman had a solid showing in the first half and looked promising on several attacks but failed to capitalise.

In the second half, Guadeloupe grew in confidence and Heindrix Julius opened the scoring in the 54th minute.

Sylguy Theo Fumont doubled Guadeloupe’s advantage in the 79th from the penalty spot and Dylanne Julien Bordin (80th) completed the victory.

Cayman returns to the pitch against home team and favourites Jamaica on Monday.

In the other opening night result, Jamaica outplayed the United States Virgin Islands 19-0.

Jamaica’s Donavan Dawkins led all scorers with seven goals. He was on target in the 5th, 32nd, 43rd, 67th, 70th, 86th and 89th minutes.

Justin McMaster scored four goals in the 9th, 36th ,50th and 60th and Alex Marshall got in the act with a hattrick, scoring in the 15th , 20th and 23rd minutes.

Other goalscorers were Nicholas Nelson in the 68th and 79th, Tajea Brown in the 29th ,Ajeanie Talbot in the 74th and Deshane Beckford in the 90th.

Jamaica faces high flying Guadeloupe on Monday.
