Stephen Donofrio – climate research studies and sea level rise

There are two big climate stories out now, concerning 11,000 scientists warning of an emissions tipping point, and about how dangerous sea level rise has and will become. If you are working on either of these stories, we thought you might be interested in speaking with Stephen Donofrio, Founder and Partner at GreenPoint Innovations in Brooklyn, and a Senior Advisor for Forest Trends in Washington D.C.. Stephen has 15 years’ experience working broadly across the climate services landscape, including starting his career as an economist at the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX) and working with the Carbon Disclosure Project. Stephen is familiar with a lot of the policy ins and outs of climate change both here in the US and globally, as well as very familiar with the world of carbon offsets and disclosures.

Stephen has some interesting thoughts on the 11K scientist story, see below —

“I would say it’s further proof that we are facing a serious crisis. If 11,000 doctors said you have a broken leg, you probably have a broken leg. It’s the reason we are continuing to push our art plus purpose campaign where we raise awareness of climate issues through art, like what we did at Newtown Creek — raising awareness of a federal superfund site, as well working with Forest Trends and EcoSystem MarketPlace to deliver accurate information on carbon offsets. The scientists are right, the time for action and adaptation is now.”

Stephen and Forest Trends also developed a film a few years ago on Stewards of the Forest, see links below –
