Snorkeler dies off Barkers

Barkers where the swimmer died

An American tourist has died after he got into difficulty snorkeling off Barkers.

The 42-year-old man was in the water with his partner when the sea became choppy.

As they made their way back to shore the man got into difficulties and needed CPR when he reached the beach.

His partner administered mouth-to-mouth and paramedics rushed to the scene just before 3pm on Monday.

A spokeswoman for the RCIPS said: “The man was taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital in George Town where he was found to be dead on arrival.

Police enquiries into the incident are ongoing but at this stage there would appear to be no suspicious circumstances.

The man is the second person to die in the water this month.

On August 10th another American visitor died after completing a dive off a site in East End.

As he tried to board a boat with a member of his family he lost consciousness.

He too was taken to hospital and pronounced dead on arrival.
