A politician is calling for a ban on the music video “Can’t Remember to Forget You” for its “immoral and vulgar content.”

BOGOTA, Colombia – A politician in Shakira’s native Colombia has slammed the sultry singer for “promoting lesbianism” in her latest music video, which features Barbadian superstar Rihanna.

The offending video is for Shakira’s new single “Can’t Remember To Forget You,” a racy production in which Shakira does her trademark twerking, going on to share a risqué romp in bed, smoking cigars with Rihanna.

Bogota councilman Marco Fidel Ramirez is calling on Colombia’s National Television Authority to ban the video from being broadcast on any of the nation’s channels because it “damages the moral character of the youth of Bogota, Colombia and Latin America.”

Ramirez, while professing to be a Shakira fan, said the two singers should be ashamed with the song he claims also promotes tobacco use, stealing and killing.

The councilman went so far as to dub the 37-year-old Colombian singer a reference point for a society in moral decay.

“Our Shakira with her erotic video is promoting tobacco usage and has become the worst example for our youth,” he wrote on his Twitter feed.

“Shakira’s new video is a shameless case for lesbianism and immorality. It is a danger to children,” he added, using the hashtag #PeligroVideoShakira, which translates to “Dangers of Shakira’s Video.”

Ramirez also wrote a letter to Shakira, in which he appealed to her as a mother and asked her to remove the video from the Internet and to consider retracting the song altogether.

In the letter, Ramirez made a point of explaining that he believes that a “normal” family comprises a man, a woman and children.

His remarks drew fire from critics who accused him of censorship, but others supported his position, agreeing that the video goes too far.

Meanwhile, the video has already racked up more than 62 million YouTube views.

It begins with Shakira on a bed singing about the mistakes she’s made in love and continues with some very friendly frolicking with Rihanna, as the twosome gyrate against a wall, cavort on a duvet and puff provocatively on cigars.

Shakira, who dated the son of the former president of Argentina for 11 years, is considered an important advocate and philanthropist who has a foundation to help impoverished children in Colombia. She has also been a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.
