Police officer charged with road offences and a man charged with attempted murder

A Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) officer has been charged with a number of road traffic offences including careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

The 54 year old officer, who was off duty, was arrested on Friday 14th September 2012. He was arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident after police earlier the same day (1:40am) received a report of a one vehicle road crash in Ithmar Circle, George Town.

The officer was suspended from driving police vehicles pending the outcome of the investigation and his suspension remains in effect.

A police spokesman said the officer is currently on bail pending his court appearance.

In a separate incident, a 25 year old man was charged and appeared in court on Thursday (25) in connection with a stabbing which occurred in Kingbird Drive, George Town, on Friday (19).

The man, aged 25, was charged with attempted murder and was remanded to HMP Northward.

The victim remains in hospital in a stable condition.
