Shots fired at police – Second man arrested

A second man has been arrested and is currently detained in police custody in connection with the incident where shots were fired at police officers last night .

The second arrest was made following a police operation in the early hours of this morning (Friday 12 April) in the George Town area.

The man, who is 22 years of age, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The first man arrested, as detailed in last night’s release, is 29 years of age and he was also arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Enquiries are ongoing and this morning police will continue to carry out searches at the crime scene at the rear of Lakeside Condos and a number of other locations in the George Town area.

Shots fired at police – man arrested

A man has been arrested and is currently detained in police custody after shots were fired at police officers earlier this evening.

About 8.12 pm  officers in a marked police vehicle were driving behind  a Ford Explorer south on Esterley Tibbetts Highway. The Explorer suddenly drove off and sped into Lakeside Condos. The officers followed the SUV, which then crashed through a fence.

Four occupants of the SUV bailed out of the vehicle and, as they ran off,  shots were fired at the officers who were pursuing them on foot.

None of the officers were inured.

A short time later a  man was arrested a short distance from Lakeside. He was arrested  on suspicion of attempt murder and firearm offence. He remains in police custody while enquiries continue.

Three of the suspects  are described as males dressed in dark clothing. The fourth  is described as male wearing a white shirt and denim jeans pants.

Officers are currently maintaining a presence in the Lakeside area not only to obtain witness statements but to reassure the residents and address  any welfare concerns.
