Offshore partner promotions [inc. Cayman Islands]
In Hong Kong, Aisling Dwyer, a trained barrister, becomes a partner in Maples and Calders’ litigation and insolvency practice, specialising in high-value cross-border litigation in some of Asia’s largest offshore corporate, insolvency and restructuring, and shareholder disputes.
In addition to her Hong Kong practice, Dwyer has knowledge of contentious matters in both the Cayman Islands and the British Virgin Islands, particularly interest statutory mergers, contentious valuations and schemes of arrangement.
She joined Maples and Calder‘s BVI office seven years ago from offshore firm Forbes Hare, and moved to the firm’s Hong Kong office in 2011. She began her legal career as a pupil barrister at commercial set 4 New Square in London and is also the current co-chair of the Hong Kong chapter of the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation.
Dwyer was one of five partners to be promoted, with the others falling among the firm’s transactional and corporate practices in Dublin and the BVI.
In the Cayman Islands, Conyers Dill & Pearman has promoted Ben Hobden to its partnership in the litigation and restructuring team.
Hobden’s practice comprises a range of issues arising from insolvencies and restructurings, including winding up petitions, of which he provided an expert view to CDR on the Cayman Islands Court of Appeal’s momentous decision in Rhône Holdings last year.
Having joined Conyers in 2012 from UK regional firm Andrew Jackson Solicitors, Hobden’s election to the partnership makes him the fourth partner to be added to the 14-strong Cayman team, which also have lawyers posted in Hong Kong.
In November 2015, Hobden was part of the Conyers team which successfully acted for RMFin the Cayman Islands Court of Appeal in RMF Market Neutral Strategies (Master) v DD Growth Premium 2X Fund (In Official Liquidation), where DD Growth’s liquidators had attempted to claw back redemption payments made to RMF.
The firm added insolvency litigation counsel Bernadette Carey in its Cayman practice in January.
