Newland Heights Community Park

Family Fun Day marks completion of Newland Heights Community Park’s Renovations

Residents of Newland Heights have a beautifully renovated community park thanks to a partnership with Dart Cayman Islands and Bodden Town representatives, Minister Mark Scotland and MLA Dwayne Seymour.

To celebrate the completion of the renovations and enhancements, Dart sponsored a Family Fun Day at the park on Saturday, November 24. Hot dogs, hamburgers, face painting, snow cones, a dunk tank and a bouncy castle water slide attracted a little over 100 people to this fun-filled celebration of community.

Minister Mark Scotland, MLA Dwayne Seymour and MLA Anthony Eden publically thanked Dart, Frank Hall Homes and Richard Christian, who spearheaded the project and is president of the Newland Heights Residence Association, for their hard work and commitment. “Government encourages partnerships such as this one. Here you see Dart – a large corporate citizen – working closely with a small community to provide it with a vibrant, well equipped park, where families can play and relax together,” said Scotland.

Upgrades include a fully equipped basketball court, children’s play set and sand pit area, community sign board, barbeque pit, dedicated walkways, gazebo, metal security fence and gates.

The landscaping included the use of shade trees, fruit trees; mango, avocado, plantain and grassed lawn areas.

This recent effort in Newlands is part of Dart’s Growing Communities initiative. At the event, Richard Christian also publically thanked community members, Dart, Minister Mark Scotland and MLA Dwayne Seymour for the transformation. “This was a solid team effort. I am proud to have been a part of this initiative, which I am confident, will be enjoyed by all,” he said. Speaking directly to his community, he added, “Please take care of this playground, treat it as your own backyard, and be mindful of others who may wish to enjoy it as well.”

MLA Dwayne Seymour added, “Parks are more and more important as families are looking for cost effective ways to have fun and spend time together. They are an essential component of strong communities and provide an opportunity for children to blossom.”

As is evident from Camana Bay, Dart firmly believes that parks and open spaces go hand in hand to building a solid cohesive neighbourhood, where families and friends can gather to enjoy the healthy outdoors.

Dart has dedicated resources and funds in developing similar community parks in many districts throughout Grand Cayman, including a recent park/playground in Cayman Brac.

Kenneth Hydes, Vice President of Place Management and Experiences at Dart, was pleased to be a part of the event. “This new park is a testament to what can happen when communities and community-minded individuals get involved. When neighbourhoods work together countless things can be accomplished, which positively affect and enrich our lives in many ways.”

Dart Cayman Islands encompasses a number of businesses that operate in Grand Cayman and is also the developer of the Town of Camana Bay. For more details, visit www.dartenterprises.biz or www.camanabay.com
