NCVO raise over $128,000

NCVO 4At the National Council for Voluntary Organisation’s (NCVO) annual Radio/Telethon last Saturday 2nd November the event raised $128,170.

Even though the organiser’s had set a target of $140,000 the NCVO Chief Executive officer, Janice Wilson, said she was “very delighted” at getting past the $100,000 ‘bench mark’

All the proceeds go to NCVO programmes such as the Nadine Andreas Residential Foster Home, Miss Nadine’s’ pre-school & the Jack & Jill Nursery.

The entertainment was varied and ‘local’. Cayman has an immense amount of talent and Chuck & Barrie Quappe who produced the radio/telethon event are to be congratulated. There is an immense amount of planning and organisation that goes into putting on a show that lasts FIVE hours and C&B are past masters of this type of execution.

The show kept me watching almost to the end – I must admit when the $100,000 mark was reached I did go to bed. These were some of the entertainers:

Teri Quappe, Gone Country, Barefoot Man, Andy Martin, JR Douglas, Joan Wilson, Heat, Inverse, Swanky, Quincy Brown, Trinity, David Verhouven, Cool School, Sea ‘N’ B, Gordon Solomon, Little Magic, Bonafide and Hi Tide.

Presenters came from CITN/Cayman27/WestStar and nearly all the radio stations. Everyone gave up their time and talents FREE.

Many thanks go out to Radio Cayman and especially CITN who broadcast the show live.

I must not forget the Cayman Drama Society who “gave up” the Prospect Playhouse for the evening. I am pleased to say it seemed to me the largest ‘live’ NCVO audience I have witnessed inside the auditorium. They were enthusiastic and cheered and applauded all the entertainers. Plus there was FREE food along with the FREE admission.

Then there were the groups of people manning the telephones from some of the island’s top professional firms and also LIME for actually providing the telephones and service.

Great job everyone. I hope I haven’t left anyone out…..?

Ms. Wilson asked me to post all the pledges to:

NCVO P.O. Box 1140, GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands KY1-1102,

or deliver by hand to their office at 90 Anthony Drive, George Town. Tel. 949 2124.
