Medical oncologist Ludimila Cavalacante, M.D., MSCI, joins Miami Cancer Institute

MIAMI – March 4, 2019 — Miami Cancer Institute, a part of Baptist Health South Florida and the state’s only member of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Alliance, welcomes medical oncologist and clinical researcher Ludimila Cavalcante, M.D., MSCI, to its team of multidisciplinary cancer care specialists. Double boarded in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology, Dr. Cavalcante specializes in the treatment of sarcoma and melanoma, and in early drug development.

Dr. Cavalcante earned her medical degree at Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach and two fellowships — one in medical/oncology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine in Madison, Wis., and the other in developmental therapeutics at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

Dr. Cavalcante will be actively involved in patient care, clinical trials and early drug development in our Precision Medicine Unit, the latter under the tutelage of Deputy Director and Chief Scientific Officer of Miami Cancer Institute, Dr. Miguel Villalona. She is a member of several professional organizations, a published author in peer-reviewed medical journals and has presented at national and international scientific meetings.
