Maples and Calder Grants Three Legal Scholarships

Maples and Calder (“Maples”) announced today that it has granted its 2012 legal scholarships to Joseph Jackson, Jessica Kong and Renee Lindo.

Joseph Jackson and Jessica Kong are 2012 graduates of the Cayman Islands Law School, where they attained their LL.B (Honours) degrees. The Maples legal scholarship will assist them in returning to the Cayman Islands Law School to complete the Professional Practice Course during the 2012/2013 school year.

A graduate of Cayman Prep & High School, Joseph held the positions of Deputy-Head Boy and Head Boy respectively in Years 11 and 12. He was also a member of the school’s Debating Team, competing in both Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac. Upon completion of his A-Level studies, Joseph was awarded a full legal scholarship by Maples to complete his LL.B (Honours) degree at the Cayman Islands Law School and has returned to work with the firm as a summer intern over the past five years. He is a member of the Cayman Islands Equestrian Federation and the Cayman Islands Law School Student Society, to which he was elected as a 3rd Year Representative for their Executive Board. Joseph is also a Student Member of the Caymanian Bar Association.

Jessica graduated from St. Ignatius High School in 2006 and from the University College of the Cayman Islands (“UCCI”) in 2008 with an Associate of Arts degree in Social Studies. During her final year at UCCI she was President of the Student Representative Council and Editor in Chief of the school magazine titled “The Pipeline”. From March-June 2009 Jessica served as an Undergraduate Representative for the Caymanian Bar Association Student Chapter.

Renee Lindo will be studying for a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Birmingham beginning in Fall 2012. She graduated from UCCI in June 2012 with an Associate of Arts degree in Social Studies. Renee has received several commendations for her academic and extra-curricular achievements to date, including being named as a President’s List Honouree at UCCI. Upon graduating with Honours from John Gray High School in 2010, where she was a Prefect and Deputy-Head Girl, she was recognised with the Community and School Service Award. Renee is a Gold and Silver Award recipient for her participation in the National Children’s Festival of the Arts, a Cayman Islands National Spelling Bee Champion, a Junior Achievement Ambassador, and past Member and Captain of the Cayman Islands Under 16 National Netball Team.
