LPC v SQE, dynamic competition and the Funds and Investment Management Update

BRIEFINGS DIGEST

Current third-year law students have two pathways available to qualify as a solicitor: the Legal Practice Course (LPC) or the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE). Although the LPC is being steadily phased out, many are still wondering which one is harder. The College of Legal Practice’s latest briefing aims to answer this often-asked question. Click on red to learn the key differences between the two pathways, the factors that may influence their difficulty and which one firms prefer.

Back in December, software giant Adobe abandoned its proposed acquisition of Figma, an interface design platform. This came after the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced its provisional findings that the merger could lead to a significant loss of competition — a sentiment shared by EU regulators. The CMA’s reasoning was based on the theory of dynamic competition and Adobe’s perceived threat from Figma. Check out Shoosmiths’ briefing here to learn why parties to similar transactions, and tech companies in particular, would do well to study the CMA’s findings.
