Lewis Hamilton is locked in a legal battle with a property developer over a luxury island getaway that he was building in the midst of his relationship breakdown with Nicole Scherzinger.

The 31-year-old Formula 1 ace and the 38-year-old former Pussycat Doll had an on-off relationship between 2007 and 2015 with the romance going cold while a £3.5 million Caribbean love nest was under construction.

Lewis designed the five-bedroom mansion on Grenada with Nicole in mind – adding a recording studio so she could work on her music projects while relaxing on the sun-soaked island.

As the couple split in February last year, Lewis pulled out of the deal and now the developers have a custom built home that no one wants to buy – leading Italian developer Bernardo Bertucci to sue for compensation.

‘We made a lot of changes in the original design,’ Bernardo told The Sun.

‘After six months he broke up with his girlfriend. One day when the villa was half built I received an email from him saying that he didn’t want to go ahead,’ he continues.

‘It’s a sad story but these things happen,’ he added.

Lewis has already won round one of the court battle which took place at Grenada Supreme Court last year – however an appeal by Bernardo is in the pipeline.

‘I didn’t want to take legal action but it is very difficult to sell a personalised villa like this,’ the developer said.
For those interested (and with a spare three and a half million), the property sounds pretty attractive, described as an ‘amazing waterfront villa with private gym, recording studio, gourmet kitchen, sunset lounge area and private jetty with the best view in the Caribbean.’
