A minute with Sarah Fenwick Jazz singer

Where do you live?

Skarinou village, with my husband, two dogs and five cats!

Best childhood memory?

So many, it’s hard to choose. Eating mangos directly off a mango tree in Grand Cayman Island is up there. I can remember the sweetness and the juice running down my arm onto my t-shirt. Oh! the look on my mother’s face when she saw the stains.

Most frequented restaurant and absolute favourite dish?

My kitchen, I love to cook, and favourite dish is homemade ravioli with feta cheese and spring onion filling.

What food would you really turn your nose up to?

I don’t like fast food.

What did you have for breakfast?

Nothing except coffee and tea, I start getting hungry at around 12.

Would you class yourself as a day or night person? What’s your idea of the perfect night/day out?

I’m a day person, get up early and go to bed early, unless I have a concert. My idea of a perfect night out is dinner with my husband and then going to see some good live music.

Best book ever read?

Again, so many it’s hard to choose. Awaken The Giant Within by Tony Robbins made a big impact, and so did Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien. I like books with a big vision.

Favourite film of all time?

Sophie’s Choice because of the way it told a story that happened in World War II in such a personal and compassionate way.

Best holiday ever taken? What’s your dream trip?

Best holiday ever taken was in Crete when I was a kid of 13. It was idyllic, a gorgeous island with such a wonderful culture. My dream trip is to the South of France to try wines in the region and pig out on French cheeses, or Thessaloniki to do the same thing.

What music are you listening to in the car at the moment?

Jazz.

What is always in your fridge?

Cheese, wines, fresh fruit, salad, fresh meat from our excellent butcher in Kofinou.

Dream house: rural retreat or urban dwelling? Where would it be, what would it be like and why?

Rural dwelling along the Larnaca coastline, a modern house built against a softly undulating hill with a view of the sea. Because I love nature and want to see it all the time to stay inspired.

If you could pick anyone at all (alive or dead) to go out for the evening with, who would it be?

Louis Armstrong, because he was a musical genius and a genuinely lovely person, according to all his friends from the era.

If the world is ending in 24 hours what would you do?

Sit on the beach with a cocktail and a smile on my face because I did my utmost to live life to the full.

What is your greatest fear?

Fear itself, financial problems, wars.

Tell me a joke…

It’s a Steven Wright line: ‘Support bacteria…They’re the only culture some people have.’
