NEW YORK — 100 Women in Hedge Funds (100WHF), a leading non-profit organization for professionals in the alternative investments industry, announced it will honor Jane Buchan, Chief Executive Officer of Pacific Alternative Asset Management Company (PAAMCO) with the 2014 North American Industry Leadership Award. Ms. Buchan will receive the award at the annual 100WHF New York Gala, to be held at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City on November 12, 2014. She will also be recognized as the award honoree at the inaugural 100WHF Cayman Gala at Tiki Beach on May 3, 2014.

100WHF presents its North American Industry Leadership Award annually to a woman whose professional talent, business ethic, and passion for investing help define and advance the alternatives industry’s standards of excellence. In addition to her responsibilities for overall business strategy and firm direction, Ms. Buchan remains actively involved in PAAMCO’s investment process as a member of the firm’s Investment Oversight Committee.

Ms. Buchan and her partners have focused on being early movers on a number of fronts in the hedge fund industry including requiring full position-level transparency from managers, targeting early-stage managers and creating a managed account platform for managers. PAAMCO is viewed as a thought leader in the industry and both the firm and its professionals have been recognized with a number of honors and awards. In particular, Ms. Buchan has been named to 50 Women in Hedge Funds, published by The Hedge Fund Journal and Ernst & Young, in 2013, 2010 and 2009.

Ms. Buchan began her career at J.P. Morgan Investment Management in the Capital Markets Group. She has also been an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. She serves as a Director and Chair of Governance and Nominating for the Torchmark Corporation (TMK). In addition, Ms. Buchan is a Trustee for Reed College in Portland, Oregon as well as the University of California, Irvine Foundation and is a member of the Investment Committees for both organizations. Ms. Buchan is also a 100WHF Charter Angel, one of the seasoned practitioners whose vision and generosity funded the initial organization and operating expenses of 100 Women in Hedge Funds, thereby enabling the legal formation of the 100 Women in Hedge Funds Association and Foundation.

Commenting on the selection, Mimi Drake, Chair, 100WHF Global Board of Directors and President, Permit Capital Advisors LLC, said, “Jane Buchan is a highly respected member of the alternatives industry, and one who we at 100WHF hold in the highest regard as a Charter Angel – a significant contributor to the organization in its earliest years. This Award recognizes both her leadership as CEO of PAAMCO and her broader efforts to champion professional educational opportunities for women in the industry through her Board role at the CAIA Association and PAAMCO’s sponsorship of the 100WHF Scholarship Program. We are pleased to be able to recognize all of her accomplishments through this Award.”

Jane Buchan will accept the award at the 100WHF Gala in New York City on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at Cipriani 42nd Street.
