19 March 2024 – Following the disqualification of two athletes from the London 2012 weightlifting competitions and the change of the official results by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB) decided to reallocate medals, diplomas and medallist pins during its meeting today.

In the men’s +105kg category at London 2012, the third-placed athlete was disqualified by the IWF, and the bronze medal has now been reallocated to Sang-guen Jeon (KOR). In the same weight category, the fourth placed athlete has also been disqualified, following a decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. As a consequence, all the rankings from third to eighth place have been adjusted by the IWF.

The medals and diplomas will be reallocated in accordance with the new ranking, provided that the athletes concerned are not currently under suspension for an Anti-Doping Rule Violation, and if no anti-doping proceedings are currently initiated against them.

The reallocation of medals is not automatic and is decided by the IOC on a case-by-case basis. Reallocation takes place only after all the remedies have been exhausted by the sanctioned athletes or teams, and once all procedures have been closed.

As all legal procedures have now concluded, the medals, diplomas and medallist pins would be reallocated as follows:

Since 2018, athletes have been able to choose from among six options to receive their reallocated medals in a way that recognises their achievements, in accordance with the Olympic Medal Reallocation Principles that were proposed by the IOC Athletes’ Commission and subsequently approved by the IOC EB in 2018.
