Invictus Reggae Classic Track & Field Meet bragging rights at stake Special Olympics Talent on display Registration Deadline Extended

When the teams representing the Police, Fire, Customs, Immigration and Prison Departments line up to face each other at the Invictus Sports Academy’s Invictus Reggae Classic Track & Field Meet on the 9th and 10th June 2017, at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex, there will be more than the winning of medals at stake. Probably of greater importance will be the bragging rights that the winners of the Invictus Security Services trophy will have over the other Departments, for at least a year, as they face off against each other.

Competing in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m and Tug-of-War in both men’s and women’s events and the combined-sex 800m Medley relay, these teams will bring an added dimension to the local track and field community. The Immigration Department are already claiming that in competitions of this nature they usually win but this is hotly disputed by members of the Customs Department. The silence of the of the other Departments on these claims should however not be treated as either an acceptance of truth or a belief that any historical truth in such utterances is an indication of what will unfold at the Meet, which is scheduled to start at 3:00pm on the 9th June and 1:00pm on the 10th June.

The Meet is also novel in that it will feature the talent of Special Olympics Cayman athletes competing in the same track and field Meet as other main stream athletes. The athletes will compete in the 50m, 100m and 400m dashes as well as a 100m walk race. The Academy, as a partner of Special Olympics Cayman Islands (SOCI), felt it was necessary and timely to bring the undoubted ability of these athletes to the attention of a wider local audience in the hope that support for the efforts of SOCI will be increased as a result. Part proceeds of the gate receipts at the Meet is committed to SOCI.

Tickets will be on sale at the gate at a cost of CI$15.00 for those patrons wishing to enter the raffle to win a pair of autographed Manny Pacquiao boxing gloves and CI$10.00 for those who do not want to take part in the raffle. There will be no entry fee for children Under 12.

Details of the Meet and Registration for the Meet can be done online or by downloading a Registration Form from the Clubs website at www.invictussportsacademy.ky. The Registration Deadline for the Meet has been extended to midnight on the 5th June 2017.

Sponsors of the Meet currently include Red Sails Sports, Saxon Insurance, RVC Rehab Services, Beyond Basics, CTMH-Doctors Hospital, Savannah Medical Clinic, No. 1 Shoe Shop, Murray & Westerborg and Anthony Lawson.

The Meet is under the Distinguished Patronage of His Excellency the Deputy Governor of the Cayman Islands, Mr. Franz Manderson.
