ILO to present Labour Overview of Latin America and the Caribbean on 14 Dec 2023

The Labour Overview 2023 on this occasion will include data and analysis about the labour market in the region, as well as the way in which labour indicators evolved in 2023, and projections for 2024.

The Labour Overview will be presented on Thursday of next week at 10:00 AM Lima (15:00 GMT) in a press conference with the Regional Director a.i. of ILO for Latin America and the Caribbean, Claudia Coenjaerts and Roxana Maurizio, expert on labour markets in the region and coordinator of the report.

The new ILO report includes data on participation rates, unemployment, employment, and other indicators that reflect the impact of inflation in Latin America and the Caribbean in a global context characterized by low growth rates, as well as the dynamics of labour markets in the region almost four years after the outbreak of the pandemic.

This year also coincides with 30 years of uninterrupted publication of the Labour Overview, which, since 1994, has statistically and analytically documented the performance of the main aggregate labour indicators along with the policies implemented in the countries that comprise it. For this reason, the report includes as a Special Topic a reflection on the demographic, economic and social changes that Latin America and the Caribbean has experienced in the last three decades.

The annual report contributes to the debate among ILO constituents (governments, employers’, and workers’ organizations), academics, labour researchers and other publics interested in information and systematic analysis on the region’s labour markets.

The Labour Overview is prepared by the ILO Regional Office, in collaboration with specialists from other offices, using the most recent data available (third quarter of the current year) from official sources of each country, collected and processed by the Information System and Labour Analysis for Latin America and the Caribbean, SIALC-ILO based in Panama.

The presentation will also be simultaneously interpreted into English.
