Humanitarian group says 70,000 in new Haiti camp

21-07-2011haitiFrom Khaleej Times

An international humanitarian group says that about 70,000 people displaced by the devastating 2010 earthquake now live in a new cluster of informal settlements that has sprouted north of the Haitian capital.

Many of the people living in the recent settlements migrated there after being relocated or evicted from other camps. Other people in this impoverished Caribbean country settled there in hopes of paying cheaper rent.

The International Organization of Migration says that the number of people still displaced by the earthquake more than three years now stands at 278,945. Several months after the disaster, that number was 1.5 million.
