How do you stand firm in difficult times?

Carlton Clemmings

By Carlton Clemmings*

The word “stand” means “remain erect’ or “be firm” according to the Concordance Dictionary.

According to the Queen’s English, the word “stand” means “to be in an upright position” or “rise to one’s feet; to make resistance, to remain unchanged”.

There are times in our lives when we fall to difficult situations which we wish we would not face.

During difficult times our faith is put to the test and reveals whether or not we really and truly believe in God and God’s promises.

Will we respond with fear as the world does, or will we respond with pain as the world does, or will we respond with greater faith and trust in God?

Well, it’s curious that the Believer should respond with faith, but faith in what is certainly not in ourselves or our own cleverness.

Every test that you have experienced is the kind that normally comes to people. But God keeps his promise and he will not allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm.

At the time you are put to the test he will give you the strength to endure it and so provide you with a way out. (1 Corinthians, Chapter 10 verse 3.  James 1 2-4)

Consider it a sheer gift, friends.

When tests and challenges come at you from all sides you know that under pressure your faith – life is forced into the open and shows its true colour.

So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well developed, not deficient in any way.
