Talk by Carolyn Whiskin, Bsc Phm

Carolyn Whiskin, BSc. Phm, graduated from the faculty of pharmacy at the University of Toronto in 1986.  She began her career  as the rheumatology pharmacist at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario.  Carolyn is currently the director of pharmacy programs for the Charlton Centre for specialized treatment in Hamilton Ontario. As part of her role in the Centre, Carolyn developed a vaccination protocol in conjunction with Dr. J. Keystone (immunologist) for patients receiving immunosuppressive treatments.  The protocol is being published in the Canadian Rheumatology Association Journal March 2014.  She is the pharmacist representative to the Ontario Rheumatology Association’s Model of Care committee. Carolyn also practices pharmacy at Brant Arts Dispensary in Burlington, ON, where she runs a highly successful compounding service. In addition to this, Carolyn specializes in pain, smoking cessation, and women’s health. She is a Certified Menopause Practitioner with the North American Menopause Society.

In addition to her busy practice, Carolyn helped to write the first year communications course for pharmacy students at U of T, has lectured at U of T, University of Waterloo and McMaster University.  She has worked at Mc Master University Medical Centre in Hamilton writing continuing education programs for pharmacists. She initiated the Pharmacist/Physician Collaboration Committee in Burlington and is a member of their Diabetes Collaborative Working Group.

As a motivational speaker, Carolyn gives lectures and workshops across Canada to physicians, pharmacists, nurses, family health teams and the public on various therapeutic topics and areas of personal growth. She has been a guest on radio and television.

Carolyn has won many awards including the national “Commitment to Care Award” in the area of patient care (2005).
