The Emmy®-winning comedian/actor/writer returns for a second season of his Sunday-night series on February 8th in the Caribbean

Miami, FL – January 26, 2015 – One of the funniest and most refreshing personalities to hit the TV scene, John Oliver returns to HBO for an all-new season of his acclaimed half-hour Sunday-night series, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, on Sunday, February 8th in the Caribbean, simultaneously with the United States.

A satirical look at the week in news, politics and current events – and the only weekly news-oriented comedy series presented on Sunday night – provides the British-born pundit with a unique platform to offer up his singular perspective and distinct voice to any number of social, political or existential issues. Drawing upon an array of topical clips from recent news reports and other sources, each of season two’s 35 episodes will be shot in New York within hours of airing on HBO, and may feature guest interviews, celebrity cameos and pre-taped segments.

Offering up “breaking news on a weekly basis,” each episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver features a recap of the week, an “And Now This” segment featuring a compilation of hilarious TV news quirks, and an extended main story in which Oliver “rants” about a specific issue – particularly ones that may be under-covered in mainstream news.

In 2014, Oliver took on hot-topic issues like net neutrality, payday loans, student debt, the death penalty, drones, the lottery, the sugar industry and more. Guest interviews and comic cameos included Gen. Keith Alexander, Steve Buscemi, Jeff Goldblum, Kathy Griffin, Stephen Hawking (kicking off Oliver’s “Great Minds: People Who Think Good” interviews), George R.R. Martin, Bill Nye “The Science Guy,” Nick Offerman, pop duo Right Said Fred, Sarah Silverman, and others.

A native of Birmingham, England, Oliver made waves at the 2001 Edinburgh Festival Fringe as part of “The Comedy Zone.” While honing his skills with solo gigs and a collaboration with Andy Zaltzman called Political Animal, Oliver appeared on British TV in the news-quiz satire Mock the Week. On the recommendation of Ricky Gervais (who had never met him), Oliver was hired in 2006 as a writer and “Senior British Correspondent” on The Daily Show, sharing three Emmys® for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series (2009, 2011, 2012). Over eight weeks in 2013, Oliver guest-hosted The Daily Show, a gig that vaulted him into the front ranks of late-night celebrity. Oliver also starred in a Comedy Central special, John Oliver: Terrifying Times, as well as John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show. When he’s not working at his HBO gig, Oliver continues to co-write and co-present 
(with Zaltzman) the weekly podcast The Bugle, which receives over 500,000 downloads a week.
