Grunewald wins Cayman Islands Marathon for 3rd time

Beth FlorekThousands watched the Intertrust Cayman Islands 2014 Marathon last Sunday (7) that saw not only the full marathon, but the half marathon, the wheelchair marathon and the four person relay.

See the attachments for the placing of the first 40 across the line in the various races, except for the wheelchair. Only two persons took part in that.

The full marathon was won by Justin Grunewald from Minneapolis for the third time in four years in 2 hours 47 minutes 11 seconds, and Steve Speirs in 2:56:53 was second whilst Tobias Mews in 3:08:50 was second.

Marius Acker was first once again in the half marathon in a time of 1:19:14, with Benjamin Wuthrich (1:26:47) second and Samuel Young (1:28:40) third. The fastest woman in this event was Joanna Mansi (1:35:19).

And we must not forget Derek Haines – see iNews Briefs for the story. Our veteran marathon runner finished in 34th place overall and reached his milestone of raising $1M for Hospice.

Congratulations Derek.

One mustn’t forget kudos to the organisers – race director Rhonda Kelly ably assisted by Laurie-Ann Holding and Bev Sinclair.
