Good works equal rewards and recognition

Deputy Director Richard Simms hands Employee of the Year plaque to Wanda McField

The Department of Vehicle and Drivers’ Licensing has named Ms. Wanda McField as its Employee of the Year for 2011.

“The Employee of the Year award is a celebration and recognition of the Department’s employees who each have delivered outstanding performances throughout the year. The criteria for consideration are “above expectation” or “exceptional” performance appraisal ratings, and the same level of service on all assigned job duties. Nominees must demonstrate exemplary performance of activities that are above and beyond the scope of their assigned responsibilities,” explained the department’s director, David Dixon.

Ms McField was cited for having a good work ethic, combined with a good attitude and the ability to meet deadlines, by both her bosses and co-workers. This is the second time she has been recognised for her ability and attitude.

“One of the best things about giving Ms. McField a task is I know that it will be done in the timeframe that was set. I don’t have to worry it’s going to get done, and done well,” Mr. Dixon said.

McField has worked at the Department of Vehicle and Drivers’ Licensing for the past 23 years. She started on the counter, gradually earning a promotion to supervisor. In 2003, she was promoted to the accounts department as Account Officer 1.

“When work needs to be done, someone needs to do it, so I just get to it,” Ms McField said.

She attributes her strong work ethic to her dad, Cardinal McField, now deceased. “Even when he was very sick he got up and moved about. That kind of attitude is an example to me, and I apply it in my daily life.”

“I try to instill my work philosophy into my three sons. If work needs to be done, do it. Don’t wait until someone asks. Get to the task and help out your co-workers. There is an old adage, “many hands make light work” and I truly believe that,” Ms McField stressed.

Deputy Premier and Honourable Minister responsible for Vehicle Licencing, Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, JP noted “It’s a pleasure to know that our departments are working hard to deliver outstanding customer service and efficiency.  This recognition is just our small way of letting our staff know we appreciate all their hard work.”

Ms McField was honored at the Department’s year-end appreciation dinner and said she was surprised and pleased at being recognised.
