Six-team event, to crown first-ever Confederation club champion, kicks off August 20 in Guatemala City

Miami (Friday, August 01, 2014) – The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) announced today the results of the draw for the inaugural CONCACAF Futsal Club Championship, to be played August 20-24 in Guatemala City.

The draw, staged at the InterContinental Hotel in Guatemala City, divided the six participating clubs – representing six different CONCACAF member associations – into two groups of three, set to play a round-robin format during the opening round of the tournament.

Host club Glucosoral of Guatemala was drawn into Group A, alongside fellow Central American entrant U.E.S. of El Salvador, and the tournament’s lone Caribbean representative, Habana, from Cuba.

Borussia from Costa Rica, the other seeded team in the draw, heads Group B along with Sidekicks of Mexico, and Canadian entrant Futsal Club Toronto.

The format features one match from each of the two groups on the first three dates, August 20-22. On the opening evening, Borussia opens against Sidekicks at 6 PM local time, followed by Glucosoral versus U.E.S. at 8 PM.

The top two teams from each group advance to the semifinals, to be played Saturday, August 23 at 4 and 6 PM local time. The third-place match is scheduled for Sunday, August 24 at 4 PM, with the Final immediately following.

The winner of the CONCACAF Futsal Club Championship Guatemala 2014 will be crowned the first-ever CONCACAF Futsal Club Champion.
