Dismissed guards to hear Pan Caribbean proposal

Unions representing security guards dismissed by the Pan Caribbean Sugar Company have finally received a proposal from the company to take back the workers for consideration.

The parties met yesterday and NWU President, Vincent Morrison says Pan Caribbean’s management has put forward several proposals to end the impasse with the dismissed workers.

One-hundred-and-thirty-two guards, who had been on indefinite leave, were sent home on August 15, despite ongoing talks over alleged breach of labour laws by the sugar company.

Yesterday’s meeting was the fifth in a series aimed at solving the impasse.

Morrison says the unions will be meeting with the security guards on Friday at the Golf View Hotel in Mandeville, Manchester.

He says the union will resume talks with the company following that meeting.

The guards are represented by the NWU, the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union and the University and Allied Workers’ Union.
