FIFA & ILO silence over case of detained migrant worker
Shakir Ullah, a migrant worker from Pakistan who requested unpaid wages on behalf of hundred of his colleagues has spent around five months in a Qatari prison. Despite being aware of Ullah’s case, FIFA, the ILO and trade unions have remained silent, failing to hold Qatar accountable for the ongoing poor treatment of migrant workers in the country.

Domestic workers remain unprotected under new Ethiopia-Lebanon agreementA new labor agreement between Ethiopia and Lebanon fails to adequately protect domestic workers who are subject to the notorious kafala system in Lebanona sponsorship system whereby the workers’ right to work and live in the country is tied to their employer. The new agreement has been criticized for failing to provide minimum salary requirements and continuing to exclude migrant domestic workers from the national Labour Law. Read more…
