DCI Workshop Assists Entrepreneurs

Persons attending the Department of Commerce and Investment’s workshop on laws and regulations for starting a business listen to the presenter, Ms Lynn Bodden.

The Department of Commerce and Investment (DCI) recently hosted a workshop on Laws and Regulations for Starting a Business in the Cayman Islands.

Because of an overwhelming response to the first workshop on 17 September, a second was held on 24 September.

The workshops are part of a DCI series that provides technical assistance to small business owners and those interested in starting a business in the Cayman Islands.

Organiser Charmaine Moss said the workshop was especially important, as many business owners are not fully aware of the legal requirements for starting a small business. It also provided networking opportunities for participants.

“It is refreshing to see how many people are interested in seeking assistance, and we are happy that entrepreneurs are taking the initiative to help themselves during this challenging economic time,” said Ms Moss.

Ms Lynn M. Bodden, attorney-at-law and partner of the firm Bodden & Bodden, presented the information. She reviewed all of the points that should be considered when starting a business, including company incorporation, licenses and permits, negotiating a favorable lease, and insuring your business.

“I was delighted to make this presentation, and encouraged by the turnout and participation. I am pleased to see that there are so many prospective entrepreneurs in our Islands,” said Ms Bodden.

Overall, participants were pleased with the workshop and found it very informative. “This was an excellent workshop for new business owners to ensure that they are doing business the legal way,” said workshop attendee Ms Jennifer Kristensen, owner of KidsAbility.
