Burglary arrests – Cayman Brac

Three Cuban nationals were arrested on suspicion of burglary on Cayman Brac earlier today.

Around 11.00am today, Police received a report of a burglary at a house in South Side Road East.

As a result of police enquiries, at around 2.30pm, three Cuban migrants were found hiding in a bush area near to South Side Road East, by Police and Customs Officers. The men were arrested on suspicion of burglary and property, which was identified as having been stolen from the house, was recovered.

The three Cubans are part of the contingent of migrants who arrived on Cayman Brac this morning (see below). They will be transferred into the custody of Immigration Officials and transported to Grand Cayman later today.

Original story:

Immigration officials have taken custody of 28 newly arrived Cuban migrants on Cayman Brac.

The migrants’ 25 ft vessel capsized in Cayman Brac waters at about 7.00 a.m. this morning, rendering it inoperable. Its passengers then came ashore.

Department of Immigration representatives have travelled to Cayman Brac to escort the migrants to Grand Cayman for processing.

As more information comes across from Cayman Brac on the 28 Cuban migrants who arrived this morning, the Immigration Department on Grand Cayman has been made aware that three migrants are presently in police custody. Due to the circumstances of their landing the three were temporarily out of custody earlier today. As this is now a police matter more details will be forthcoming from the police.
