Cuba slashes internet fees by a third

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 31 (ACN) The Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA) announced on Monday , the reduction of internet costs from 1.50 to 1.00 cuc for an hour of connection.

During a meeting with the press in Expocuba fairgrounds, venue of the ongoing Havana International Fair, Luis Manuel Diaz, head of Institutional Communication of the entity, explained that this rate reduction is in line with the decision lower prices as capabilities grow.

Díaz reported that the maximum storage capacity of the mailbox of users of its Nauta accounts has now been increased to 100 MB, from 50.

The executive explained that ETECSA is present in more than 1,300 public spaces, advances in the Nauta Hogar service (there are six provinces benefited) and expects, once the damage of Hurricane Irma is restored, to extend that option to the rest of the country.

In addition, he recommended to clients to inform themselves about the benefits of the equipment acquired outside the Island, since sometimes some of them do not adjust to the frequency with which that entity operates.

Also, he said that in recent times in mobile telephony has advanced the implementation of the 3G technology in the Special Municipality of the Isle of Youth, in the province of Havana and the tourist poles.

Diaz also announced that they are working on the test phase for their subsequent implementation of the 4G, which will operate with a frequency of 1,800 megahertz and 700 megahertz for the most faraway areas.
