Concacaf: U.S., Costa Rica vie for top spot in Group A

Lindsey Horan (# 9 ) has four goals thus far in the tournament, including a hat trick against the Canaleras and Raquel Rodriguez the 26-year-old FW has three goals in the 2020 CWOQ.

HOUSTON, Texas – The United States and Costa Rica will each be vying for a first-place finish in Group A when they meet in the group stage finale of the 2020 Concacaf Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship on Monday at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas.

The reigning FIFA Women’s World Cup champions have enjoyed a strong tournament thus far, registering 4-0 and 8-0 wins over Haiti and Panama, respectively.

The U.S. have never lost in the CWOQ, and they will look to continue that trend with Lindsey Horan leading the way.

Horan has four goals thus far in the tournament, including a hat trick against the Canaleras.

Costa Rica have their fair share of weapons as well and the Ticas flexed their scoring muscles in their opener, a 6-1 win over Panama before downing Haiti 2-0.

It seems like the CWOQ always seems to bring the best out of Costa Rica’s Raquel Rodriguez. The 26-year-old FW has three goals in the 2020 CWOQ, including both goals in the win over the islanders.

Her goals on Friday gave Rodriguez a career nine goals in the CWOQ, which should provide a sturdy challenge for a U.S. defense that is yet to concede.
