Clear Masks

Cayman: Clear Masks option available for HSA hearing impaired patients

With facemasks still a requirement for staff, patients and visitors at all Health Services Authority (HSA) locations, the organisation realizes the communication challenge this may pose to those who are hearing-impaired.

Patients who have difficulty hearing can request their HSA healthcare providers use a clear mask to communicate with them more effectively. This option is available at the Cayman Islands Hospital, outpatient clinics and district health centres.

HSA’s Chief Executive Officer Lizzette Yearwood stated, “When staff wear transparent masks, persons who are deaf and hard of hearing, are then able to read lips and see facial expressions. At HSA, we are constantly working towards improving our inclusivity and our patients’ overall experience, which is why we’ve included this option of clear masks for those who need it.”
