Cayman – Update: Police to conduct Witness Appeal as investigation into Strand Shooting continues

Update (18 March):

Tonight, Friday 18th March, detectives along with uniform officers, will be attending the Strand Complex on West Bay Road in search of witnesses to the shooting incident that took place last Saturday morning, 12 March, just after 3AM.  Police are aware that there were a number of people present during the time that the incident took place, however, very few have come forward to provide the police with information to assist the investigation.

Detectives are encouraging anyone with information to call the Major Incident Room at 649-2930. Anonymous tips, including multimedia files, can be provided directly to the RCIPS via our Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777, or via our website.

Police Officers will also continue proactive patrols at nightclubs and other hot spot areas, to discourage illegal activity and antisocial behaviour. The public is being reminded to ensure that they conduct themselves in a manner that is within the law, and remain safe.


Initial Release, 12 March:

Around 3:30AM, Saturday 12 March, emergency services responded to a 911 report of a firearms incident at the Strand on Canal Point Road.

It was reported that several shots were heard in the area, prior to a vehicle leaving the scene with a man who had received gunshot wounds.

The man, a 31 year old from George Town, as delivered by private vehicle to the George Town Hospital, where he received medical treatment for gunshot wounds to his abdomen and leg.  His injuries are believed to be serious but non-life threatening.

Police detectives are investigating this incident and anyone with information, specifically, anyone who may have witnessed the incident taking place, is encouraged to call the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.
