Cayman: Quarantine breach reported in Cayman Brac

George Town, Cayman Islands (Thursday 18th February, 2021)

An alleged breach of isolation protocols by travellers quarantining at residence in Cayman Brac has been reported to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) and is currently under investigation.

As part of a routine welfare and compliance visit by the Travel Cayman Mobile Compliance Team, travellers in quarantine were found to have persons visiting with them in their yard space. On instructions from the Medical Officer of Health, the persons visiting have been placed in quarantine and have been tagged with monitoring devices.

Public Health have confirmed that all primary contact tracing protocols have been observed and would like to reassure the public that there is no immediate cause for public health concern.

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) noted that this is an ongoing investigation and a completed file will be sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for a decision.

The public and travellers are reminded that anyone that is found to be in what appears to be a breach of the mandatory quarantine provisions will be warned for intended prosecution and is liable on conviction to a fine of up to ten thousand dollars and imprisonment for up to two years.
