Cayman: Police Investigate Fatal Collision in Prospect

UPDATE: The roadway along Mangrove Avenue in Prospect has now been cleared and re-opened to the public. Investigations into this fatal collision continues. 

INITIAL RELEASE

Just before 1:30PM today, police and other emergency services were dispatched to Mangrove Avenue in the Prospect area to a single vehicle collision involving a black Honda motor car.

When officers arrived at the location they saw that the vehicle had collided with a fence column and the male driver, who is believed to be the only occupant in the vehicle, was still inside. Both Emergency Medical Services and the Cayman Islands Fire Service attended and assisted with extracting the driver from the vehicle.

The man showed no signs of life at the scene. He was transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital where he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.

Mangrove Drive, in the vicinity of the collision will be closed while officers carry out on scene investigations. The RCIPS apologises for any inconveniences caused.

Investigators from the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit are currently investigating this incident and are seeking witnesses to come forward and provide information about how the collision took place.
