Cayman: Nation bids farewell to Captain Eldon Kirkconnell

Wednesday, 5 July 2023 – Family, friends, government officials and well-wishers attended the Church of God Chapel in George Town, Grand Cayman on Saturday, 1 July as the nation bid farewell to Captain Eldon Kirkconnell: former member of the Cayman Islands Legislative Assembly and Executive Council.

Premier Hon. Wayne Panton and Parliamentary Secretary Heather Bodden joined family members in offering tributes to the late Captain Kirkconnell during the official funeral accorded by the Cayman Islands Government.

Premier Panton expressed his sincere sympathies to the friends and loved ones of Captain Kirkconnell stating, “You remain in our collective thoughts and prayers, but we know that Captain Eldon was a man of great faith, and that today, he is at rest with his Our Lord and Saviour.

He further noted, “A great Caymanian has set sail on his final voyage. In the words of George Eliot, “Our dead are never dead to us, until we have forgotten them”. I am quite certain Captain Eldon will never be forgotten, but will live on in the hearts and minds of the Caymanian people, ever grateful to have had him as an enduring person, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. May the soul of Captain Eldon Kirkconnell rest in peace.”
