Man Arrested for Leaving the Scene of an Accident Yesterday, 24 January re “Woman Struck by Vehicle on West Bay Road Saturday Evening, 21 January” – see below

A man, age 32 of Bodden Town, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident in connection with the incident Saturday evening, 21 January, during which a 69-year-old pedestrian received serious injuries.

The man is currently in Police custody.

The victim is currently in hospital in the United States in serious condition.

Woman Struck by Vehicle on West Bay Road Saturday Evening, 21 January

Just before 9PM Saturday evening, 21 January, the 9-1-1 Communications Centre dispatched police and emergency personnel to a report of a pedestrian injured by a vehicle on West Bay Road in the vicinity of Lime Tree Bay Avenue.  A woman had been walking on the sidewalk on the west side of the street when she was struck by a vehicle heading north.  The vehicle did not stop and continued in the direction of West Bay Public Beach.

The woman, age 69, received serious injuries and was transported to Cayman Islands Hospital by ambulance. She has since been flown off-island for treatment.

Police are searching for a light-coloured Honda Pilot SUV in connection with this incident.

Single-Vehicle Accident at Chrissie Tomlinson Roundabout Saturday Night, 21 January

Just before midnight, Saturday, 21 January, police and emergency services were dispatched to a single-car accident at the Chrissie Tomlinson roundabout on Shamrock Road during which a 2000 white Honda Civic had flipped over.  The male driver, who was alone in the car, was transported to hospital for treatment of a broken leg.
