Cayman Islands: Serious hit and run motor vehicle collision

At approximately 6am today 6th June 2015, RCIPS and Emergency Medical Services was dispatched to a hit and run motor vehicle collision on Eastern Avenue in the vicinity of Blue Marlin, where a male cyclist was struck from his bicycle.

On arrival of the police and emergency medical services, the vehicle involved in the collision had already left the scene. The cyclist received medical attention and was transported to the George Town Hospital for further medical attention; as a result his left foot was amputated. He remains in George Town Hospital in serious condition.

As a result of further investigations by the RCIPS, the vehicle suspected to be involved in the collision was recovered and a 23 year old male was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident, he remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
