Cayman Islands Premier’s Easter Message 2014

Premier Hon. Alden McLaughlin 10-13As we enter this long Easter holiday weekend we are reminded of our country’s Christian heritage and the gift of salvation brought to us through the Lord Jesus Christ who was crucified, dead and buried but rose from the grave to sit at the right hand of God.

Over the course of the next few days believers will take time to reflect on the death and resurrection of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, recognising the gift that God gave us through Him. That gift is eternal life for all who believe in Christ.

It requires believers to follow the example of Christ; to hold to the tenet that is the second greatest commandment of all as written in the 12th Chapter of Mark, verse 31: to love your neighbour as yourself.

I believe that many people in the Cayman Islands live by this principle on a daily basis for the betterment of our communities and country.

I implore each of us to remember our neighbours this weekend as we travel to camp sites and gather with families and friends to just relax or share in the Gospels that tell the Easter story.

Loving our neighbours includes not drinking and driving and keeping everyone safe this weekend. What a pleasure it would be to wake up Tuesday knowing that this long weekend occurred without any negative incidents.

We can also show our love of neighbour and environment by ensuring that we pick up after ourselves as we uphold the long tradition of Easter camping. Please remember to leave our beaches and parks clean for your fellow man.

Because of our Christian heritage – which is just as alive and well today as it was when our forefathers and mothers were establishing our country – we have four days to become reinvigorated; to reflect and rejuvenate ourselves.

Many of our churches will hold special services throughout the long weekend. If you are a visitor and want to participate, I would encourage you to find a church and attend. There you will find the best our country has to offer – its genteel, welcoming and loving people.

I speak on behalf of Government and my family when I wish everyone a peaceful, blessed, safe and happy Easter.

Thank you.
