Cayman Islands National Tourism Plan seeks public consultation

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, 22 August 2018 – The Ministry and Department of Tourism want to hear from you on the draft National Tourism Plan (NTP) 2018-2023. As outlined during the community meetings held in February and March of this year on all three islands, the final NTP will provide a comprehensive and strategic way forward to maximize the benefits of tourism throughout the country.

“I would like to first thank all of those who came out during our first round of community meetings. It was wonderful to see a broad cross-section of persons both currently in the tourism industry and beyond, allowing us to hear first-hand the concerns and new ideas that were shared; these were key to getting us to this point now,” said Tourism Minister, the Hon Moses Kirkconnell. “It is imperative that the community remains involved in the process because ultimately, this very important economic pillar of our society can only thrive with your support.”

Director of Tourism, Mrs. Rosa Harris further encourages the public to participate in this important stage of review. “The National Tourism Plan is designed to be our road map for sustainable success in tourism while supporting the many businesses that are needed to make the industry thrive. Providing the government with your responses to the draft plan, will further shape the tourism management approach, priorities and action plan. The Ministry and Department of Tourism look forward to receiving your feedback.”

The plan focuses on several key areas such as enhancing business environment, workforce development, creating an outstanding visitor experience and improving the connectivity and infrastructure of the islands – each with strategies on how to effectively accomplish these goals. Comments and any additional inputs provided by tourism businesses and the public will be used to finalise the detailed Action Plans, the Evaluation Plan, and National Tourism Plan 2018-2023. The public consultation process will be open from 22 August through 26 September 2018.

Submissions can be provided online by visiting www.CaymanNTP.ky Hard copies of the draft National Tourism Plan will be available at the Government Administration Building reception area from Friday 24th August.
