From RCIPS Mon, Mar 9, 2015 at 1:43 PM

Uniform officers in West Bay are investigating a collision on Reverend Blackman Road, West Bay approximately 8:35pm Sunday 10 March 2015.

The collision occurred when the driver of a green Honda Aspire motor car struck a male pedestrian and fled the scene. The collision was observed by an off duty police officer, who was also travelling along Reverend Blackman Road, he followed the vehicle to an address on Gaston Smith Drive, West Bay and called uniform patrol officers to the location.

A 41 year old male resident of West Bay was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident and driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

The pedestrian, a resident of West Bay was transported to the George Town Hospital and remains hospitalized for injuries received, including a broken leg. He is said to be in a stable condition. RCIPS Superintendent Adrian Seales recognizes the efforts of the off duty police officer and his actions in apprehending this driver. It is a callous act to hit a pedestrian, a bicyclist or anyone and leave them on the road side, without calling for help or medical assistance. RCIPS will continue to prosecute drivers with the help of the community in bringing these persons to justice.

Matter is under investigation by Uniform Officers from the West Bay Police Station.
