Cayman Islands golfer placed in top 10 at DSU Tournament

Nicole Scola, Emily Ribbins Place In Top 10 At DSU Fall Invitational; Bobcats 3rd out of 5

QUEENSTOWN HARBOR, Dela. – The Quinnipiac University women’s golf team finished the first day of the Delaware State Invitational in third place out of the five competing teams at Queenstown Harbor Golf Links. Sophomore Nicole Scola (Westerly, Rhode Island) completed the first day in ninth place, followed closely behind by classmate Emily Ribbins (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) in 10th place.

The Bobcats combined for a 330, 25 strokes off of leader Fairfield (305) and also trailing Navy in second place at 318. The Bobcats finished the first day ahead of Delaware State (338) and Hampton (351).

Scola finished the first day at +8 (80) after shooting identical 40’s on the front and back nine. Ribbins bested her teammate by a stroke on the front nine, but carded a 43 on the final nine holes to head into the clubhouse at +9 (81). For Ribbins, it was strokes off her career-best 18-hole round, but was the best score of the 2014-15 season, so far.

Freshman standout Estefania Morales (Caracas, Venezuela) was right behind her teammates in a tie for 14th place. Morales shot a 44 on the front nine and was the only Quinnipiac golfer to break 40 – with a 39 – on the back nine to complete the first day at +12 (83). Taylor Lambrou (Baldwin, New York) shot an 86 (+14) for her best score of the season while junior Alexa Gentile (Avon, Connecticut) finished with an 89 (+17) and a tie of 18th place.

Quinnipiac resumes play at Queenstown Harbor Golf Course on Monday, Oct. 6.
