Cayman Islands DVDL Enhances Online Services

• DVDL launches text message reminder service

• Customers can now check online if their new plates are ready

• The new services will help to save customers time.

GRAND CAYMAN (GIS) – The Department of Vehicle and Driver’s Licencing (DVDL), in partnership with the e-Government Unit, the Computer Services Department and the Ministry of Commerce, Planning and Infrastructure, is enhancing its customer service with the introduction of text message reminder services and a new mobile app.

“I’m thrilled to see these new enhanced customer services come into play,” exclaims Hon. Joseph Hew, Minister for Commerce, Planning and Infrastructure. “Government wants to ensure that we find more ways to save our people time and hassle, and these new offerings provide them with that needed convenience and efficiency,” he adds

DVDL has begun to send customers SMS reminder messages when their vehicle licence is coming due for renewal. The text messages will be sent up to three times leading up to the expiry date, starting a month before.

“We’re excited to roll out this service, because it’s one that customers have been asking for,” says DVDL Director David Dixon. “Everyone has busy lives and sometimes these things slip our minds. This is a way for us to help make life a little easier for our customer,” comments Mr. Dixon. 

The department has also installed a widget to its website’s home page which will allow customers to check if their new electronic licence plate is available for collection by simply typing in their plate number.

“Convenience and simplicity is really the key to these services,” notes Director of E-Government Ian Tibbetts. “While these services don’t completely eliminate the need to go to DVDL’s office to conduct business, it does remove some of the difficulty in accessing some services as well as provide significant time saving for customers.”

These mobile conveniences come off the heels of the launch of the department’s online guest vehicle renewal service in late October. The online service can be found on both the DVDL’s website (www.dvdl.gov.ky) or through the e-services portal (www.eservices.gov.ky).

To use the online renewal service customers will first need to ensure their vehicle’s inspection is current. Vehicles can be inspected at either DVDL’s inspection pits or at one of their private garage partners. Customers will then need to supply their licence plate number and have a digital or scanned copy of their insurance showing the vehicle is currently covered. Customers can pay for the renewal and inspection through the online portal.

 “We’re still working to have more of our services available online, but we believe that these new offerings will really help to ease some of the stresses our customers face, and that’s our ultimate goal,” explains Mr. Dixon.
