The public and private sectors came together for a very special community project on Saturday, 29 November 2014.

Some 130 civil servants turned out to six locations across Grand Cayman to clean those neighbourhoods in advance of the holidays, as part of the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce Christmas Cleanup. Meanwhile a further 15 civil servants helped to cleanup Cayman Brac.

Deputy Governor Franz Manderson joined the West Bay team that cleared Boatswain’s Bay and Watercourse Road.

The George Town crew had the largest turnout, with some 65 volunteers. Veteran GT Primary School Principal Marie Martin led a group of civil servants, students and PTA members that covered roads and areas surrounding the school.

Bodden Town team leader Crosby Solomon said civil servants were motivated to sign up for the project because community service was built into their organizational culture.

Grand Cayman crews delivered 30 bags of recyclable items to local recycling company Junk.

The Civil Service previously partnered with the Chamber of Commerce for the Earth Day Cleanup earlier this year. Both projects were organized by the Portfolio of the Civil Service. (GIS)
