Bodden Town Man Arrested – Identified as John Bodden Acting Chief Fire Officer

At 10:08am Thursday 4 June 2015, a 47 year old male from Lower Valley, Bodden Town was arrested by traffic investigators for dangerous driving and leaving the scene of an accident. This arrest follows a hit and run collision which occurred on National Heroes Day, Monday 26 January 2015, outside the Savannah, Primary School when two brothers age 14 years and 21 years were struck by a motor car while crossing the street.

Uniform officers also seized a Lincoln Town car in this incident for forensic examination. Both brothers received injuries in the collision but he 14 year old was discharged from the George Town Hospital several weeks later, suffering from serious injuries.

The accused remains in custody.

He has been identified as Acting Chief Fire Officer (CFO) John Bodden.

Ronnie Dixon has been appointed to act as the CFO in his place.

Water Related Death

On Friday 29 May 2015, a water related death occurred in West Bay involving an American diver, who was on an annual dive event known as Inner Space. The 53 year old male John Michael Killanin was an hour into his dive when he experienced difficulties with strong currents off Cobalt Coast. He was accompanied by a dive buddy who assisted in the surface of the distressed diver. The dive buddy signaled for assistance and they were picked up by a boat. Mr. Killanin was unconscious and dive personnel present assisted with CPR. He was transported to shore where he was met by an ambulance and transported to the George Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a medical doctor around 12:40pm. Mr. Killanin arrived on Grand Cayman on Saturday 23 May 2015, he was visiting from Clearwater, Florida, USA.

The circumstances of his death is under investigation by officers from the RCIPS Joint Marine Unit.
