CAYMAN ISLANDS: Public assistance sought re- 2 indecent assaults on South Church Street GT last week/Busy Final Weekend of January for RCIPS

Police Request Public Assistance in Ongoing Investigation into Indecent Assaults

We are requesting public assistance in our investigation into the indecent assaults on South Church Street reported last week.

We understand that a man was driving a dark blue or green SUV along South Church Street at about 7:30AM last Saturday morning, 30 January, at the time of the second attack, and saw the assailant. This man may have information relevant to the investigation, and we are asking him to call George Town CID to speak to detectives.

There also may be other victims who have experienced an attack similar to the indecent assaults that occurred last week and not reported it to police. We urge these women to come forward and share this information, which could be critical to the apprehension of the individual responsible.

2 indecent assaults on South Church Street GT last week

Police responded to reports of two indecent assaults around 7AM and 7:30AM on Thursday and Saturday last week, 28 January and 30 January, on South Church Street in George Town. In both cases a woman walking or running alone was grabbed by a man who emerged from bushes along the road and ran up behind her, then ran away after the assault. One assault occurred near Dart Park, with the man running off in the direction of Clayton Drive; the other occurred between Thompson and Denham Thompson Way, with the man running off toward Denham Thompson. Neither woman was injured.

In both incidents the man or men in question is/are described as somewhat tall and having a dark complexion.

With respect to Thursday’s incident the man in question is described as wearing a black beanie hat and dark, short sleeve shirt.

With respect to Saturday’s incident the man in question is described as slim and clean shaven, wearing camouflage pants and a dark-colored short-sleeve T shirt with a shoulder-length braided hair style.

Nineteen Arrests throughout Final Weekend in January

RCIPS officers were busy this past weekend following up on leads, executing warrants and making arrests. Since last Friday officers have made nineteen arrests, including two separate arrests each for burglaries, illegal firearms possession, assault, and provoking fear or violence, as well as three drug-related arrests. Several are already proceeding to court.
