Cayman Golf Champions Crowned

20 March 2024

The Cayman Islands Amateur Golf Championships presented by Grant Thornton, took place this past weekend at North Sound Golf Club and saw some thrilling finishes with three of the four championship divisions having to go to extra holes before winners were determined.

In the Men’s Championship, a new winner was crowned but only after a tremendous battle did Conor Glynn beat Andrew Jarvis on the fifth hole of a sudden-death play-off when Glynn’s par was sufficient to take home the title after both players had finished the 36-hole tournament at 1 under par totals of 141. Daniel deQuintal finished a further eight shots back in third.

In the Senior Championship, three extra holes were needed to separate Denis Corin who beat defending champion Tim Hepburn after both players had finished with 6 over par totals of 148. Richard Hastings was third, five shots further back.

The Super Senior Championship also required extra holes with Scott Kapuscinski coming out on top over Robert Woods on the second extra hole after both had finished with 8 over par totals of 150. Johan Bjuroe was third, six shots back.

The Ladies’ Championship was more straightforward with Isabel Mendes winning the event with a 12 over par total of 154, 19 shots ahead of Bethany Hawkins with Maria Butler a further three shots back in third.

There were also handicap divisions for the men and the ladies with Hunter Kassam winning the Men’s Handicap division and Manon Guilbard winning the Ladies’ Handicap division.

Cayman Islands Golf Association (“CIGA”) President, Daniel Fortune, remarked on the high standard of golf. “The quality of the golf was exceptional and the level of competition intense. We have seen some new faces win for the first time and also the return to the winner’s enclosure of some past champions as well. The event went exceptionally well, and I offer hearty congratulations to all the winners. As always, none of this is possible without the support from the staff at North Sound and the CIGA committee as well as the very generous support and backing received from our Title Sponsor, Grant Thornton.”

“Huge congratulations to all the winners and to all participants on their strong performance throughout the tournament,” says Greg O’Driscoll, Partner and Head of Asset Management and Business Development at Grant Thornton Cayman Islands. “The Cayman Islands Amateur Golf Championship is one of the major tournaments or the year, and we were delighted to support the event, and to continue our strong partnership with the Cayman Islands Golf Association.”
