Cayman: COVID-19 Update – 31 December, 137 NEW cases, 44 confirmed cases of Omicron

Grand Cayman – Chief Medical Officer (Interim) Dr. Autilia Newton reported 137 new cases of COVID-19, nine in travellers and 128 from the community on Friday, 31 December. Public Health reported 751 PCR tests were conducted since the last report on Thursday, 30 December, of which 88 were positive. Forty-nine positive lateral flow tests (LFTs) were also reported during this period. 
               

There have been 44 confirmed cases of the Omicron variant in the Cayman Islands to date, meanwhile the number of probable Omicron cases reached 332 on Friday, 31 December. The total number of cases recorded in the Cayman Islands since the start of the pandemic stood at 9,080 at the same time. 

In addition, five COVID-19 patients were hospitalised in the Cayman Islands as at midnight on Friday, 31 December.  Of these, one patient was newly admitted.

There were three new cases found in the Sister Islands. To date, there have been 138 total cases recorded in the Sister Islands, with 121 having recovered. Out of the total number of cases in the Sister Islands, 76 were fully vaccinated, six were partially vaccinated, and 56 were unvaccinated.
              

To date, there have been 58,822 people (83% of 71,106) who had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Meanwhile, 57,198 individuals (80%) had completed the two-dose course.

Additionally, 17,114 people (representing 24% of the total population) had received a third or booster dose up to that point.
