Cayman: CIAA staff earn Leadership and Management certificates

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (25 February 2021) The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA), which operates the Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) and the Charles Kirkconnell International Airport (CKIA), recently presented a group of their employees with Level 2 and 3 certificates in Leadership and Management, after they successfully passed their courses of study and assessment from the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM).

ILM is Europe’s largest independent Leadership and Management Awarding body that works in partnership with over 2,000 centres across the world to provide high-quality development opportunities for leaders and managers at all levels in public, private and voluntary organisations. ILM has rapidly established itself as a leading source of high-quality qualifications in team leading and management practice, to support career development and improve individual performance.

Fourteen students received the Level 2 Certificate and three students received the Level 3 Certificate. A celebration luncheon was held on Friday, 4 December 2020 at Owen Roberts International Airport to commend them on their achievements. Comments and awards were given out by ILM Facilitators Yvette Myles and Graeme Jackson. Also, in attendance were members of the CIAA’s executive team and Managers of the graduates.

“We are very proud of our graduates for taking this extra step in their own learning and development journeys of improving leadership and management skills. This is part of the CIAA’s strategy to develop our talent pool, by creating Learning Maps, which improve the leadership and management competencies and also prepares our supervisory and managers for upward mobility and Succession Planning,” said CIAA Chief Human Resources Officer Mario E. Ebanks. “They have worked extremely hard to get here, whilst juggling a work/life balance, and we commend them on their ILM achievements! We look forward to our business returning to buoyancy, so that the CIAA can continue to invest in the human capital development of our people.”

This level of leadership training will help participants to continue to excel as successful candidates, benefit from career enhancement and progress to other learning and development qualifications or to the management qualifications at a higher level, such as ILM Certificate and Diploma in Leadership and Management. Pursuing this Award will enable the CIAA’s junior management team to develop the skills and knowledge designed for practicing team leaders, to help them become more effective and confident in their leadership role and position themselves for upward mobility of their careers within the organisation. The Award also supports new or aspiring team leaders in making the transition from working in a team to leading a team.
